verse 24:<br />

<strong>The</strong>se things may be taken figuratively, for the<br />

women represent two covenants. One covenant is<br />

from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be<br />

slaves: This is Hagar.<br />

Why Mount Sinai? Because when God gave<br />

the law at mount Sinai, what did the Jews say?<br />

“All that You say we will do.” That was the old<br />

covenant, man promising God to be good. Did<br />

they succeed? No. And when they failed, did they<br />

acknowledge it? No, instead they made rules,<br />

human rules that they could keep, and they said,<br />

“God, we are keeping your law.” And Paul goes<br />

on to say in verse 25:<br />

Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia<br />

and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem,<br />

because she is in slavery with her children.<br />

And so Paul will make the statement in<br />

Galatians 5:1:<br />
