Romans 7:18 says:<br />

I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in<br />

my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what<br />

is good, but I cannot carry it out.<br />

Now when the flesh appears good, Paul calls in<br />

Galatians 6:12, “<strong>The</strong> fair showing of the flesh.”<br />

Let’s turn to it, Galatians 6:12. Please remember<br />

that Paul is dealing with the works of the law in<br />

Galatians; that is a problem that we are facing. <strong>The</strong><br />

Judaizers did not make a sharp distinction between<br />

ceremonial law and moral law like we do. To<br />

them, all the laws of Moses were in one lump. <strong>The</strong><br />

emphasis was on circumcision and the moral law.<br />

Those who want to make a good impression<br />

outwardly are trying to compel you to be<br />

circumcised. <strong>The</strong> only reason they do this is to<br />

avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.<br />

In other words, “As many as would like to<br />

show you how good you are, they’ll say, ‘You<br />

must to this and that.’” In their day, it was<br />
