Verse 7:<br />

<strong>The</strong>se have come so that your faith — of<br />

greater worth than gold, which perishes even<br />

though refined by fire — may be proved genuine<br />

and may result in praise, glory and honor when<br />

Jesus Christ is revealed.<br />

<strong>The</strong> words, “gold refined by fire,” in the<br />

Hebrew thinking, in the Old Testament, is simply<br />

“purified faith,” faith that has been purified. And<br />

in the New Testament, that faith that has been<br />

purified is known as “the faith of Jesus Christ,”<br />

because the faith of Jesus was purified.<br />

You remember in Gethsemane, if you read<br />

Mark 14:32 onwards, three times Jesus prayed to<br />

His Father, “Father, please remove the cup,<br />

nevertheless not My will but Thine.” He did not<br />

allow self to have any part in His ministry. And<br />

every dross of self was crucified in the life of<br />

Christ. Now when we first accept Christ our faith<br />

is egocentric. In other words, we accept Christ<br />
