What was he uttering that he understood not?<br />

He was defending his self-righteousness. He did<br />

not know that his self-righteousness was filthy rags<br />

before God. But now God opens his eyes, and Job<br />

says, “I have now understood...things too<br />

wonderful for me.” Verses 4-5:<br />

“You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will<br />

question you, and you shall answer me.’ My ears<br />

had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.”<br />

In other words, “I heard about you before, but<br />

now I have direct knowledge from you.” Now<br />

listen to verse 6, and folks, this is the text that I<br />

want you to look at carefully:<br />

“<strong>The</strong>refore I despise myself and repent in dust<br />

and ashes.”<br />

“God, you are right.” He’s repenting of his<br />
