REPORT PURPOSE<br />
To consider a proposal to rename Millars Well Oval the Kevin Richards Memorial Oval.<br />
Background<br />
Millars Well Oval is 4.57 hectares, Reserve No 38920 Millars Well and vested to the <strong>Shire</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Roebourne</strong> and Minister for Education for the purposes <strong>of</strong> Recreation The Oval is<br />
managed by the <strong>Shire</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Roebourne</strong> as a joint use facility with the Department <strong>of</strong><br />
Education..<br />
Council Policy CS9 Naming <strong>of</strong> Parks Reserves and Building states;<br />
The naming <strong>of</strong> parks, reserves and buildings are usually selected by Council, however,<br />
members <strong>of</strong> the community may apply to Council to consider a proposal to name a park,<br />
reserve or building in honour <strong>of</strong> deceased persons who are considered pioneers, persons<br />
who made an outstanding humanitarian contribution or who, in the opinion <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Shire</strong>, are<br />
worthy <strong>of</strong> such an honour.<br />
In October 2008 the <strong>Shire</strong> received a submission from the Karratha Football & Sporting<br />
Club requesting Council consideration to rename the Millars Well Oval the Kevin Richards<br />
Memorial Oval. The submission was based on recognising the contribution that Mr Kevin<br />
Richards made to the local community and his involvement with various community<br />
organisations including the Karratha Football & Sporting Club. The submission is to<br />
rename the Oval, with additional facilities including the Millars Well Pavilion, Infant Health<br />
Centre and Child Care Centre to remain as is.<br />
The submission has been considered in accordance with Council Policy and specifically<br />
the assessment criteria that states;<br />
