Ordinary Council Meeting – Agenda 16 February 2009<br />
The key elements to the concept include;<br />
A series <strong>of</strong> concrete footpaths to connect to existing footpath networks throughout Pt<br />
Samson<br />
Use <strong>of</strong> local native trees and shrubs<br />
A series <strong>of</strong> sandstone sculptures depicting the Pt Samson coastline eg Whale and Calf and<br />
turtles<br />
Use <strong>of</strong> local iron ore and rocks for various areas within the park.<br />
Upon Council endorsement various contractors will be engaged to develop the park which<br />
is intended to be completed by July, after which a major community event is planned to<br />
celebrate the Centenary.<br />
Options<br />
Council has the following options available:<br />
1. To endorse the Point Samson Centenary Sculpture Park Concept as presented;<br />
Or<br />
2. To the Point Samson Centenary Sculpture Park Concept as amended<br />

Financial Implications<br />
The expenditure is in accordance with the budget.<br />
Conclusion<br />
There has been extensive consultation carried out with the community to determine the<br />
wants and needs in regard to celebrating the Centenary. It was decided that the<br />
redevelopment <strong>of</strong> the park will provide a positive enhancement <strong>of</strong> usable public space for<br />
future generations and tourists who visit Pt Samson. The general feedback and support<br />
received from the wider community indicates their appreciation <strong>of</strong> Council‟s support in<br />
enhancing their town. It will also allow Council to further demonstrate its support for<br />
community enhancement and wellbeing.<br />

That Council endorse the Point Samson Centenary Sculpture Park Concept as<br />
