REPORT PURPOSE<br />
To consider projects for submission to the 2008/2009 Royalties for Regions – Country<br />
Local Government Fund<br />
Background<br />
The Royalties for Regions initiative <strong>of</strong> the State Government will be delivered via three<br />
funding programs including<br />
the Country Local Government Fund;<br />
the Regional Infrastructure and Headworks Fund; and<br />
the Regional Community Services Fund<br />
The Country Local Government Fund (CLGF) was launched in December 2008. Under the<br />
CLGF, an allocation <strong>of</strong> $1,570,171 was made to the <strong>Shire</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Roebourne</strong> for 2008/2009.<br />
The CLGF has been established to;<br />
Improve the financial sustainability <strong>of</strong> regional local governments in WA through improved<br />
asset management; and<br />
Address infrastructure backlogs and support capacity building.<br />
Under the CLGF the first years allocation will be made directly to local governments with<br />
future allocations to be made through regional organisations <strong>of</strong> local governments. eg<br />
Pilbara Regional Council. As part <strong>of</strong> the CLGF, the <strong>Shire</strong> will receive two payments, the<br />
first upon nomination <strong>of</strong> project and no later than March 2009, the second after<br />
demonstrating initial expenditure, completing the relevant interim report form and no later<br />
than June 2009. A final report is due 30 th November, with future funding based on receipt<br />
<strong>of</strong> reports.<br />
The <strong>Shire</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Roebourne</strong> is required to now nominate its project (s) for consideration to the<br />
CLGF. Nominations are due to the Department <strong>of</strong> Local Government and regional<br />
Development by the end <strong>of</strong> February.<br />
Issues<br />
Cr Lally has nominated the purchase <strong>of</strong> the Karratha Cinema Complex for consideration.<br />
