16 PROGRAMME O-RINGEN VÄRMLAND 2017
Welcome to String-O/Miniknat
A String Orienteering course, a fun
adventure course for the youngest
kids, will be available each day next
to the competition arena.
Each participant gets to run around a string
course with a map, an Punching Card, and bib
number.
After completing the course, each participant
receives a prize.
Each String-O course has a different theme,
which will be visible along the course. Each
day competitors get to meet Ringo and other
characters related to that day’s theme. Kids
can run at any speed they like, and each kid
must have a responsible parent/adult with
them while on the course.
String-O Themes
Stage 1: Goliath
Stage 2: Wizards and trolls
Stage 3: Lilla Anna, Långa Farbrorn, Spöket Laban,
and Tummen
Stage 4: Nils Holgersson
Stage 5: Rally
Bib numbers
You get a new adhesive bib number each day.
Charcaters depicted on the bib numbers are
from children’s books, as well as the dragon
Kjetil and Prince Pralin. Bib numbers are designed
and sponsored by Semmeltind, who
also have a booth at O-Ringen Square.
Assembly
String-O takes place in a forested area next to
each arena. Look out for signs featuring Ringo,
or look at the arena map.
Registration and cost
In order to avoid queueing, it is simplest to
register for String-O through O-Ringen’s online
registration portal. You can do that ahead
of time or on the day. If you know that a kid will
participate in String-O all five days, then you
can sign up for the whole week at once (200
SEK). Each start costs 40 SEK. You can also purchase
String-O starts at Competitor Services.
Pre Booked Start String-O runners have their
own start chute. You can also register at the
String-O start. Payment is accepted by card,
Swish, or cash.
Sportident
Whenever possible, we ask that String-O runners
have their own Punching Cards. It is ok to
use a competing parent’s Punching Card. A
Elite Tour
Runners in the junior and senior elite
classes compete in the Elite Tour.
This is a tough competition with two
long distance races, a shortened
long distance, a middle distance, and
a sprint in central Arvika.
The top favorite in D21 is current World Champion
in the middle and long distances Tove Alexandersson
from Sweden, who will be challenged
at the top by her teammates on the
Swedish national team Emma Johansson and
Karolin Ohlsson, as well as some international
stars and veterans, such as Simone Niggli from
Switzerland and Anne Margrethe Hausken
Nordberg from Norway.
The H21 class has a very strong starting
field, where we can expect exciting battles
between such starts as multiple World Champion
Olav Lundanes from Norway, Tiomila and
Jukola winner Norwegian Eskil Kinneberg, and
local boy and Swedish national team star Jonas
Leandersson, just to mention a few of the
many stars in this class.
The junior classes will feature many Swedish
and international JWOC runners.
For the first time this year, the junior elite
classes will also compete in the Elite Sprint
that takes place on Tuesday (Activity Day)
in central Arvika. We can expect thousands
of spectators and large crowds at one of the
year’s most well-attended competitions.
The week concludes with a chasing start in
tough and demanding terrain. You can expect
some exciting battles at the top in the woods
around the Arena Rackstad.
Program
Stage 1: Arena Skjutsbol, Long Distance.
Classic long distance courses with somewhat
fewer controls than usual. The terrain is varied,
mostly good running with some shrub-covered
marshes and open hilltops.
Stage 2: Arena Torget Arvika, Sprint. Typical
city sprint with some sections of park/forest.
Expect a lot of spectators and a great atmosphere
all along the course. Finish in the middle
of Arvika’s central square.
Stage 3: Arena Boda. Shortened Long Distance.
An exciting stage in spectacular terrain.
It will be important to recover quickly from
yesterday’s sprint. Orienteering technique,
route choices, and strength will all be crucial
to succeeding on this stage.
Stage 4: Arena Boda, Middle distance. This
area, just to the East of Wednesday map, offers
a highly detailed hillside, where all your orienteering
skills will be tested.
Stage 5: Arena Rackstad, Long distance. This is
perhaps the most physically demanding stage
of the week, combined with detailed contours
and tricky route choices. This challenging final
stage will crown worthy total winners in all
eight Elite Tour classes.
Selection for elite classes
For the DH21 Elite classes, 80 runners will be
selected. DH18-20 Elite will have 120 runners
