O-Ringen is back in Värmland
for the first time in 20 years!
Now it’s our turn!
We orienteers in Värmland have been planning
and planning, preparing and preparing,
pre-running and pre-running, building and rebuilding
(a little bit), in other words everything
that needs to be done before a big event. We
have been working on this in one way or another
for over three years. Now we are full of
expectations and ready for the orienteering
party to begin!
We are all guests
In the context of such a huge event, it is clear
that we are all guests. Guests in the forests and
fields, guests in private homes, and guests as
tourists. We members of the organizing committee
are thankful that we are welcomed by
the landowners and that we can show our finest,
wildest, and most detailed areas to the orienteering
world. We are also glad that the people
of Värmland have shown great hospitality
and opened up their private homes and cabins
to orienteers. Thanks to them, O-Ringen can be
the world’s largest orienteering adventure.
O-Ringen is certified as an environmentally
friendly event. This means needing to think
about minimizing our effect on the environment.
This year we have decided to include
bus tickets in the price of entry. We hope that
this step gets more people to ride buses out to
the arenas in order to shorten the travel time
to the arenas and reduce the number of car
trips. We have also worked hard to secure local
providers for various goods and services. We
can proudly announce that all bread used in
our sandwiches available for sale in kiosks and
stands is freshly baked in Arvika; and all salads
are made in Värmland. This also reduces the
need for additional transport.
A living event.
Without out partners and providers, O-Ringen
would not be itself. We have partners
and providers who are completely engaged
in our effort to create a living event. This year
we have many different exhibitors and booths
on the shopping street, spanning the distance
from exciting industrial firms to quality handicrafts
and everything in between. Come by
the shopping street and let yourself be entertained,
motivated, and inspired!
A new hideaway?
During the O-Ringen week you are going to
visit several different municipalities. Arvika is
the hosting municipality and contains O-Ringen
City; however, Eda, Sunne, Kil, and Karlstad
municipalities are also involved in a variety
of ways. We hope that during this week you
find yourself a new favorite place to remember
in Värmland when the winter chills arrive.
As I write this, I am crossing my fingers for
beautiful, warm summer weather, perfect for
swimming. We have many great swimming
spots along our lakes in western Värmland. But
if it doesn’t turn out that way… we don’t let
weather stop us! Regardless of weather, Värmland
offers plenty to do for any taste. Stop by
one of the tourist offices on the shopping
street and get some ideas.
Excited officials
Over 1300 officials are working hard to make
sure that O-Ringen runs smoothly during the
entire week. We all want for you to experience
WILD BEAUTIFUL VÄRMLAND and we will do our
best to make that happen. Värmland is a small
district in Sweden’s orienteering community,
and finding officials and volunteers for all tasks
has been somewhat of a challenge. Besides
our 21 orienteering clubs in Värmland, we
have been cooperating with local sports clubs.
A huge thank-you to all volunteers who have
invested time and vacation to create O-Ringen
Värmland 2017. This year we have introduced
a number of technical innovations to keep up
with the latest developments in technology.
For example, you can register for direct entry
courses from your phone, without standing in
line. We believe that this will help provide even
better service for our competitors.
Now all the controls are sitting out in the
forest and waiting for the runners to come. We
are ready for O-Ringen Värmland 2017. Now
the orienteering party can begin.

Takes Care of the Environment
As an environmentally certified
event, O-Ringen puts a high priority
on a well thought-out and easily accessible
waste management system,
of which you are an important part!
Together we can make sure that
our impact on the environment is
minimal.
Arvika in Värmland cherishes the global and
local environment, everything from the small
things in your immediate surroundings to the
large things in nature. These are the principals
that O-Ringen’s trash sorting and recycling systems
follow.
Recycling stations can be found at the personal
hygiene stations at the campground.

There, you can recycle plastic bags, packaging,
metal, glass, newspapers, food waste, and other
waste. Food waste should be placed in paper
bags available at the personal hygiene stations.
The bags should then be placed in the
designated containers. The campground also
has specified grilling locations, where you can
find containers for disposable grills and ashes.
Each arena will have containers for paper
and plastic packaging, cans and bottles, food
waste, and other waste.
There are several recycling stations where
you can return cans and bottles and also recycle
packaging and newspapers.
Other trash items, such as electronics, batteries,
etc., can be deposited at Mosseberg’s
trash disposal. For more information see

There, you can also find a guide to sorting
your waste.
The more you sort, the more can the waste
be recycled and become new products! This
saves energy, carbon dioxide emissions, and
natural resources by reusing materials multiple
times. All waste management is done
in cooperation with the Arvika municipality,
Västvärmlands LBC , and Returpack.
We can all help by picking up after yourself
and others, keeping your surroundings clean
and nice, and making sure to leave Wild, Beautiful
Värmland as beautiful as when we came!

Payment options at O-Ringen
In order to increase security both for you as
a competitor and for all O-Ringen officials,
we are working to minimize the use of cash
during O-Ringen. Other payment options,
such as credit card payment or swish, will be
available at nearly all shops and locations accepting
payment. It is, of course, still possible
to pay with cash, but such options are more
limited than in prior years. If you want to pay
with cash, make sure that your bills are still in
circulation. Unfortunately, we cannot accept
expired bills or coins.
