Refershments
Water is available on the way to the start, as
well as in the competition areas for stages
1,2,3, and 5. Refershment stations that are
passed by elite classes also have sports drink.
Refershment points in the competition area
are marked on the map with a violet cup
symbol. Please dispose of used cups by putting
them in designated trash bags or placing
them upside down on designated poles by
the refreshment point.
Control descriptions
Control descriptions are printed on the map
and are also available at the start in loose form.
Control descriptions follow IOF’s most current
standards.
Controls
Controls are marked with orange-and-white
flags and are placed very close together in the
forest. Check your code numbers very carefully!
A control’s code number is located next to
the SI-unit on top of the control stand. Controls
must be visited in the correct order.
Shadowing
Competitors in the Introduction & Development,
Stage Start, Personal Program, and
Try-It-Out competitions can be shadowed by
adults or run with others. Shadowing before
your own race cannot be done by competitors
racing in ranked classes, that is DH18, DH20,
and DH21.
Punching system
SportIdent’s (SI) system for electronic timekeeping
and punching is used. All types of
Punching Cards can be used, but not touchfree
functionality is present in the SI-units.
Note! The same Punching Card can only be
used for one competitor / one start per a given
stage. This means that you cannot lend your
Punching Card to anyone else, if you use it yourself
for that stage. Any competitor who uses an
Punching Card that has already been used for a
given stage will be disqualified.
It is the competitor’s responsibility to take the
right Punching Card to the start. Your Punching
Card can be checked at the control stations located
on the way from the arena to the start. If
the Punching Card number you have does not
match the one registered in O-Ringen’s data
system, you must report to the Red Start at the
control station for changes.
You can check which Punching Card you
registered with ahead of time via oringenonline.se.
You can change your Punching Card
number for free at any time at oringen.se/bytbricka.
Keep in mind that the same Punching
Card can only be used for one start per stage.
Punching at a control
It is the competitor’s responsibility to make
sure that a sound and/or light signal was registered
from the SI-unit when punching.
Be especially careful when another competitor
is punching at the same time at a nearby SIunit,
so that you do not interpret their signals as
a confirmation of your own successful punch.
If you do not receive a sound or light signal
after repeated attempts, you must use the
manual punch located on the control stand.
Manual punching must be done in the reserve
boxes located on the map. Manual punches
must then be shown to officials at the Red Exit
after the finish.
Remember to punch at the last control that
is located near the entrance to the finish chute.
The Punching Card must be carried around
the entire course. If you do not have your
Punching Card with you at the finish, you
will be disqualified, even if you used manual
punching for all the controls you visited after
losing your Punching Card.
Competitor’s responsibility when punching
• To punch at the right control in the right
order
• To wait for a sound and/or light signal from
your own punches so the punch registers
• To use manual punching in a reserve box
on the map if no sound or light signal is observed
• To carry your Punching Card with you from
start to finish regardless of whether any controls
were punched manually
Renting Punching Cards
Punching Cards rented in advance can be
picked up at Competitor Services at O-Ringen
City until 9pm on Saturday, July 22. After
that point, rented Punching Cards can be
picked up at Competitor Services at the arenas.
Punching Cards can also be rented at any
Competitor Services location.
Returning rented Punching Cards
The competitor is responsible for returning
his or her rented Punching Card after the last
stage for which the rented Punching Card was
used. This can be done at the download station
after finishing.
Failure to return rented Punching Card
Competitors who do not return a rented
Punching Card will be charged 600 SEK. Rented
Punching Cards that are not returned will
then be registered in SportIdent’s block list
and will not be able to be used in further competitions.
Finish
The finish chute is divided into eight different
chutes. You must cross the finish line in the
chute that is indicated on your bib number.
Your finish time is taken when you punch at
the finish line, which is located about 10-15
meters before the actual finish tent.
Competitor’s responsibilities when finishing:
• To run in the correct finish chute. The name
of the chute is printed on the bib number;
• To punch the finish at the end of the chute,
regardless of whether or not you finished
the course;
• To download your Punching Card, even if
you quit the race;
• To return your rented Punching Card;
• To make sure that any manual punches are
seen by officials in the Red Exit.
Download of Punching Card
After crossing the finish line the competitor
must proceed to the download station. At the
download station the competitor receives a
printout of his or her split times. If data in the
Punching Card shows that not all correct controls
were punched, the competitor must then
go to the Red Exit in the finish tent in order to
figure out the reasons.
Special finish for DH80 and older
For classes DH80, finish time for stages 1-4
will be taken when punching the final control.
Competitors must then continue down their
finish chute, punch the finish, and download,
but the time from the last control to the finish
is not included in the racing time. For stage 5,
a normal chasing start finish is used for these
classes.
Finish procedure for stage 5 chasing starts
For classes with a chasing start for the final
stage, final placing is counted as the order in
which the finish line is crossed. The finish line is
placed approximately 15-20 meters before the
finish tent, and the finish punch is located a
few meters further. In the case of a close finish
sprint between two or more competitors in a
class, finish line judges decide in which order
the competitors should punch the finish.
Internal finish sprint races (comparisons of
split times from the last control to the finish
punch) are not recommended for stage 5, as
it may lead to confusion over the correct order
of finishing.
Finish chutes for elite classes are divided
into two tracks in order to create fairer sprint
battles. Competitors choose either the left or
right track and cannot switch once the choice
is made.
Red Exit
If data in the Punching Card shows that not
all correct controls were punched, the competitor
must then go to the Red Exit in the
finish tent in order to figure out the reasons.
If you used manual punching at any controls,
you must also go to the Red Exit, where your
punches will be checked by officials.
The Red Exit can also be used to notify
event officials of any technical problem related
to the competition, such as a non-functioning
SI-unit.
Out of bounds areas
All cultivated and private land is out of
bounds. Respect this rule before, during, and
after the competition. There are also additional
out of bounds areas marked on the map.
These marked in terrain with blue-and-yellow
streamering. If the boundary of an out of
bounds area is marked on the map with a solid
line, the corresponding streamering in terrain
is continuous. If it is marked on the map with
a dashed line, the streamering in terrain will
consist of shorter, hanging series of streamers.
If the boundary of an out of bounds area is not
marked with a distinct line, then no streamers
are placed in terrain. Crossing an out of
bounds are results in disqualification.
Streamers in terrain
Out of bounds areas are marked in terrain with
blue-and-yellow streamers. Indistinct trails are
marked in terrain with white streamers.
Reporting wildlife encounters
Competitors who encounter wildlife during
the competition must report these encounters
to the Viltrapport area in the back of the
finish tent. Animals that must be reported are
moose, deer, and any predators.
Toilets
Toilets are located at the arenas and on the way
to the start for all stages. For detailed information
about toilets on the way to the start, see
the overview sketch under Stage Information.
Showers
Warm outdoor showers are available at all
arenas. See corresponding arena sketches for
location.
String-O
String-O courses offer themed orienteering
along a streamered course for the youngest
kids (ages 3-8). Registration includes Punching
Card rental. This is not a competitive activity,
and every participant gets a prize each day.
You can register via oringen.se or at Competitor
Services locations at the arenas.
Childcare
Childcare is available at all competition arenas
and can be booked via oringen.se or at Competitor
Services.
Incomplete races
Competitors who quit the races must, as soon
as they are able to, pass through the finish and
have their Punching Card downloaded. If a
competitor cannot have their Punching Card
downloaded for any reason, such as an accident,
their number and/or name should be
messaged as soon as possible to finish official
Håkan Lindberg at +46 (0)70-276 01 39.
Maximum time
The maximum allowed competition time for
stages 1, 2, 3, and 5 is 2.5 hours. The maximal
allowed time for stage 4 (middle distance) is 2
hours. If you take more than the maximum time
for any stage, you are considered overtime.
Search and rescue
Event officials will organize search parties for
the people who did not download or inform
event officials that they quit the race after the
end of the competition time. Family members
and clubmates of the missing competitors are
asked to provide relevant information to event
officials in the event of a search.
Rule violations
Notifications of any rule violations that took
place must be submitted in writing to event
officials or to the Red Exit within two hours of
the end of the competition.
Protests
Protests against the event officials’ decision in
the case of a rule violation can be submitted
in writing to the Red Exit or to Competitor
Services at O-Ringen City or at the arenas no
later than two hours after the original decision
is presented.
