five stages at O-Ringen!
The competition takes place on trails and
roads in Värmlands deep woods and is contested
across a number of different competition
classes. The key to success in MtbO is to
maintain high speed while keeping contact
with the map.
You can sign up for any of 6 different stage
start classes each arena during each competition
day (9am-1pm) or through oringen.se
later than the evening before the race.
Competition rules
The Swedish Orienteering Federation’s Competition
Rules 2016-02-22 apply.
Special notes:
• During MtbO competitions at O-Ringen
Värmland you are only allowed to ride on
trails and roads marked on the map, as well
as on asfalt- and gravel-covered areas and on
100% yellow areas. You are not allowed to either
ride or run with your bike through forest.
You are not allowed to bike through white,
50% yellow, or clear-cut areas on the map.
• The competitor must have the bike with
him/her the entire time. For example, the bicycle
cannot be left so that the competitor
can quickly run to a control, punch, and then
return to the bicycle.
• Many of the trails are narrow, and a risk for
collisions exists. Make sure to stay to the right
and use caution! Whenever possible, notify
other riders that you are coming.
• During stages 1, 3, 4, and 5 all competitors
will pass a couple of larger roads used by car
traffic. Cars will have a lower speed limit of 40
km/h, but all other regular traffic rules apply
when biking on the road.
• Be careful, keep to the right, and follow all
instructions given by event officials!
• Forbidden trails and roads are marked with
red crosses on the map and blue-and-yellow
streamers across the trails in terrain. Respect
the forbidden trails. Show consideration to
nearby residents.
• The bib number must be attached to the
front of the bike.
• Equipment requirements include a bicycle
(not electric-powered) and helmet. Otherwise,
there are no additional requirements
on clothing.
• Competitors in all classes are called up 2
minutes before the start and get their map 1
minute before the start.
• The map is printed on plasticized paper using
a laser printer.
• Control codes are printed on the map next
to the control numbers. No separate control
descriptions are available. Rented Punching
Cards can be collected at Competitor Services
at each MtbO arena on the morning of the
competition. Rented Punching Card must be
returned after finish. See detailed information
under “Rules for Punching Cards” in a
different location in the program brochure.
Punching
SportIdent’s (SI) electronic punching system
is used for all races. SI-chips 5-11 can be used.
The competitor must be in possession of the
Punching Card throughout the duration of
the competition, but it does not have to be
attached to the bicycle.
Additional information
Additional information for each stage, describing
specifics applicable to that stage, will be
made available at each arena. The way to the
start will be described in this additional information
and posted at the arenas. Only stages
3 and 4 will have toilets at the start.
Chasing start for stage 5 will be used for all
competitors with a combined time (from stages
1-4) less than 60 minutes behind the class
leader. Competitors with longer total times
or those who do not have a combined time
start after the chasing start with an interval of
1 minute.
