This is because earning and educational levels of workers are associated more directly to occupations than with the industry in which they work. For example, the manufacturing industry, while employing a number of assemblers and machine operators—also employs people in management occupations and in professional occupations such as engineering. All of these occupations have different pay scales and require varying levels of education and training.
