have their supper and go to bed, April very often sneaked downstairs to eat what was left. April never was given much to eat, although times were hard, people knew how she was treated and gave April an apple or cake in the day when she was on the street playing. Her shoes were tight which hurt her feet, her clothes were passed down from other children which meant that they were worn and ripped, but somehow April looked pretty and clean, she would do her own hair to keep it tidy. When John was working one day, his friend called in to bring something. Betty let him in, the children were upstairs April heard them laughing together so she crept down stairs and saw Betty kissing John’s friend. April was shocked, but she crept quietly back and never mentioned it to anyone as she was afraid of upsetting her dad, even at this young age she knew things was wrong. April loved doing her lovely auburn hair into different styles. She also enjoyed chatting to everyone on the street, they all loved her, except her step mother, Betty, who was always cruel and gave her no love. Betty only fussed her own children, and she only put up with April just to stay with John.
