The Injury<br />
April now 15 years old and worked in the spring<br />
factory, they worked shifts and caught the pit bus<br />
to get there. It was hard work, but April enjoyed<br />
it meeting new friends. April never smoked<br />
cigarettes like the other’s so at break time they<br />
would send April to the shop and the chippy<br />
for their lunch. She didn’t mind as her friends<br />
always had a mug of tea waiting for her when<br />
she returned.<br />
April tipped her full wages to Betty and only<br />
had a small amount of money to get her through.<br />
April enjoyed her job and met many new friends<br />
to go out and about with.<br />
April asked Betty for some shoes for this job as<br />
they must be safety shoes, but Betty wouldn’t<br />
buy her any, she told her to pad her shoes with<br />
cardboard to cover the holes. April didn’t have<br />
enough money of her own to buy any and<br />
explained that she needed safety shoes she told<br />
Betty: “I must have them, the manager said so”<br />
Betty just ignored this and said “you can manage<br />
for now.”
