As a class, watch the video
about paper structures at this
website .
Look at other chair designs
on the Internet.
Learn about other ways to
change the shape of paper,
and how to change it into
something else that can be
used. List all the ways and
see if you can use them to
make some part of the chair.
Start with the ways you have
learned about, like twisting,
bending and crushing.
Design, plan and manage
Plan your chair and how you will
change the newspaper.
Draw a picture of what your
chair will look like.
Using the worksheet, record
how you will change the
newspaper and how you will
use it to make the chair.
Discuss who will build each
part of the chair and which
part to start on first.
Project Steps
Make
Build your chair.
Start creating the structure
of your chair and putting it
together using sticky tape.
Use the newspaper to create
decorations or make the
chair more comfortable.
Check and make changes
Test if your chair can hold the
weight of your toy bear.
Check that you changed the
newspaper using at least
five methods and that the
newspaper was not used
as is.
Communicate
As a group, record a video to
Baby Bear, selling the chair
to him and describing all the
wonderful ways newspaper
was used to make the chair.
How did you make all the
parts of the chair? Why would
Baby Bear want your chair?
