We will foster a strong sense of connection between <strong>Cardinia</strong> <strong>Shire</strong>’s diverse communities.<br />

Monitor and research emerging community trends to help plan for the needs of residents.<br />
Identify, collate and share demographic data,<br />
social and health statistics, and emerging trends.<br />
Maintain the centralised research database (i.e.<br />
factsheets, population projection updates and<br />
social health profile).<br />
A number of factsheets have been developed<br />
to compliment the Liveability Plan <strong>2017</strong>–2029.<br />
These aim to raise community understanding and<br />
awareness about <strong>Council</strong>’s commitment to the<br />
identified health and social priorities and policy<br />
domains. The Census 2016 findings were released<br />
and are available on <strong>Council</strong>’s website along with<br />
recent social and community demographics,<br />
statistics, and emerging trends. Recent social<br />
research into housing and homelessness has<br />
identified a number of areas <strong>Council</strong> can focus<br />
on. A factsheet on the findings of this research is<br />
available on the website. Additional information<br />
on the recently released Australian Bureau of<br />
Statistics homeless count and the bankruptcy data<br />
is also available on the website.<br />
Promote access to and encourage, a mix of housing types to cater for the varying needs of people in the<br />
<strong>Cardinia</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> community.<br />
Undertake a demonstration social housing project<br />
in partnership with a housing association, local<br />
housing providers and social support services.<br />
<strong>Council</strong> has continued to explore opportunities for<br />
social housing. <strong>Council</strong> has discussed possible<br />
options for the development of community<br />
housing with housing associations and local<br />
housing providers. <strong>Council</strong>’s priority area is to<br />
provide housing options for women and children<br />
escaping family violence. <strong>Council</strong> has developed<br />
a partnership with a women’s housing provider<br />
to deliver Women’s Community Housing in<br />
Pakenham. The location of this development is<br />
yet to be confirmed; however, it is anticipated the<br />
project will commence in 2019.<br />
Support opportunities for participation in a diverse range of arts, cultural and tourism activities.<br />
In conjunction with the Public Art Coordination<br />
team, plan for public artworks to be delivered in<br />
Ranges Ward.<br />
<strong>Cardinia</strong> Arts Facility – Ccomplete design<br />
and commence construction for Stage 1<br />
redevelopment of the <strong>Cardinia</strong> Cultural Centre.<br />
Deliver public art at prominent sites across <strong>Shire</strong> –<br />
Central Ward.<br />
The scope and sites for this project were<br />
determined after consultation with Puffing Billy<br />
Railway and a number of stakeholders. An<br />
expression of interest was undertaken and an<br />
artist consultant appointed. This project will be<br />
delivered in the 20<strong>18</strong>–19 financial year.<br />
An application for additional funding for this<br />
redevelopment through the Victorian Government<br />
Growing Suburbs Fund was successful. Detailed<br />
design and contract documentation of the Stage<br />
1 redevelopment of the <strong>Cardinia</strong> Cultural Centre<br />
was completed. The project was put to tender<br />
and construction commenced in June 20<strong>18</strong>. This<br />
project will be carried forward into 20<strong>18</strong>–19 and is<br />
due for completion June 2019.<br />
An artist was engaged and artwork was<br />
constructed and installed in Main St Pakenham.<br />
The artwork by Julie Squires was titled ‘Mr<br />
Yakkerboo Meets Blue’.<br />
