CEO report<br />

Throughout the past 12 months,<br />

our organisation has worked<br />

steadily and with exceptional<br />

dedication to deliver a range of<br />

services and projects, develop<br />

and adopt new plans and policies,<br />

and build, upgrade and renew<br />

important infrastructure for the<br />

benefit of <strong>Cardinia</strong> <strong>Shire</strong>.<br />

With almost 400 staff working<br />

collaboratively to achieve our shared organisational<br />

goals for the benefit of the community, investing in our<br />

people is paramount to success. We make a conscious<br />

effort to develop a skilled and professional workforce that<br />

continually strives to go from good, to great, to excellent.<br />

I am proud of <strong>Council</strong>’s achievements in delivering<br />

professional, personal, and cultural development<br />

opportunities.<br />

Delivering major projects<br />

<strong>Council</strong> completed and progressed a number of<br />

major projects this year, delivering quality facilities<br />

to serve our growing community into the future.<br />

Highlights include:<br />

• Bridgewood Primary School and integrated<br />

Child and Family Centre -- this ground-breaking<br />

precinct development opened this year, allowing<br />

students to transition from an integrated early<br />

learning and development environment to formal<br />

education in the primary school, also providing a<br />

Maternal and Child Care Health service and<br />

parenting support programs<br />

• Pakenham motorsport precinct -- a world-class<br />

motor sport precinct is being developed on a specially<br />

zoned 64-hectare parcel of land, which will include<br />

a race track and associated infrastructure, driver<br />

training and education programs, plus an events and<br />

exhibition space<br />

• Deep Creek Reserve -- work progressed steadily<br />

at the 48-hectare greenfield development, which<br />

will be a place of environmental and recreational<br />

significance, and will include the shire’s first regional<br />

all abilities playground<br />

• Lang Lang Community and Recreation Precinct --<br />

works are well underway to deliver a major<br />

recreation and community precinct, which will<br />

include sporting facilities, multipurpose community<br />

spaces, parks and other open spaces for<br />

recreational activities<br />

• Hill’s Hub -- work began on a new Hill’s Hub to<br />

bring a range of existing community services and<br />

organisations under one roof and provide additional<br />

multipurpose spaces for the community, providing<br />

greater access to community activities.<br />

Advocating for regional investment<br />

It is crucial that <strong>Council</strong> continues to advocate for and<br />

work in partnership with other organisations and levels<br />

of government to attract investment into the region and<br />

provide the services, facilities and economic benefits<br />

needed for our growing population. Examples include:<br />

• Melbourne’s third airport – <strong>Council</strong>, together with<br />

the South East Melbourne Group of <strong>Council</strong>s, has<br />

advocated for a third airport to be built in the southeast<br />

region for a number of years. We believe an<br />

airport in the region will drive growth and provide new<br />

jobs in transport, logistics, tourism and agriculture,<br />

becoming a major economic and employment driver<br />

for our local communities. We are continuing to<br />

advocate to the Victorian Government to ensure an<br />

appropriate location for the airport<br />

• Team 11 – <strong>Council</strong> has supported south-east<br />

Melbourne’s bid to bring an A-League and W-League<br />

soccer club to the region. The club would become the<br />

region’s first professional sporting club to both train<br />

and play in the area, working alongside over 100 local<br />

clubs and providing a pathway to professionalism<br />

for local players. Team 11 is a great way to unite the<br />

more than 160 nations represented in the community<br />

through a shared love of soccer.<br />
