Preserve and improve our bushland and natural environment by implementing weed management programs and<br />

Preparations are underway for a planting project<br />
with Landcare in the Avonsleigh Bushland Reserve<br />
to compliment planting projects previously<br />
undertaken. Preparations for a Landcare hosted<br />
National Tree Day planting event (July 20<strong>18</strong>)<br />
at Pepi’s Land have been completed. <strong>Council</strong>’s<br />
Natural Reserves team assisted the Maryknoll<br />
Friends Group to undertake a planting day. A weed<br />
management project has been undertaken in<br />
Pepi’s Land as part of the Wetlands Restoration<br />
Program, targeting high threat weeds. Emerald<br />
Lake Park’s Vegetation Management Project has<br />
been successfully delivered for <strong>2017</strong>–<strong>18</strong> and the<br />
project brief has been prepared for the 20<strong>18</strong>–19<br />
weed target program. This will be enhanced by the<br />
inclusion of follow up works by <strong>Council</strong>’s Natural<br />
Reserves Rangers and enhancement plantings<br />
within the <strong>2017</strong>–<strong>18</strong> weed control zones. The multiagency<br />
Peri Urban Project has been successfully<br />
delivered for <strong>2017</strong>–<strong>18</strong>, which includes six <strong>Council</strong>managed<br />
reserves and three roadside clusters.<br />
The project brief has been prepared for the 20<strong>18</strong>–<br />
19 weed target program. Site auditing is underway<br />
for the 20<strong>18</strong>–19 Bushland Reserves Maintenance<br />
Program, which will include a combination of<br />
Natural Reserves Ranger and Contractor works.<br />
Works have commenced in <strong>Council</strong>’s reserve<br />
offset sites as part of the Developer Contributions<br />
Fund. Roadside weed control was successfully<br />
undertaken, targeting high threat weeds in the<br />
<strong>2017</strong>–<strong>18</strong> project scope areas of Lang Lang,<br />
Heath Hill and Pakenham/Officer. Roadside Weed<br />
Mapping has been undertaken in the 20<strong>18</strong>–19<br />
project scope area to inform the weed control<br />
works program.<br />
Manage agricultural land use by supporting farmers to utilise sustainable farming practises.<br />
Implement the Westernport Green Wedge<br />
Management Plan into the planning scheme.<br />
Participate in DELWP advisory committee to<br />
enable contemporary agricultural activities.<br />
Advocate for Bunyip food belt project.<br />
