Wheelers Road (Maryknoll) – Construction and<br />
finalisation of scheme costs and statutory process.<br />
The Special Charge Scheme for O’Sullivans Road,<br />
Hill Street and Peet Street has been declared. Preconstruction<br />
activities have been undertaken. The<br />
construction works have been tendered. A tender<br />
assessment is underway with a report expected to<br />
be presented to <strong>Council</strong> in August 20<strong>18</strong>.<br />
The construction of Wheeler Road Special Charge<br />
Scheme has been completed.<br />
Prioritise multi-use pathways, where practicable, to create networks that connect destinations.<br />
Implementation of the footpaths identified in the All works have been completed.<br />
Pedestrian Bicycle Strategy.<br />
Cockatoo–Gembrook Trail –<br />
commence construction.<br />
Works are significantly complete, with only minor<br />
works outstanding. This includes the relocation of<br />
an Ausnet power pole, the pedestrian crossing at<br />
Pakenham Road in Cockatoo, and signage. The<br />
signage will be completed in consultation with the<br />
Eastern Dandenong’s Rail Trail association.<br />

Advocate for and facilitate improved public transport options and major arterial roads to help link employment,<br />
educational, recreational and retail activities between the shire’s rural and growth areas.<br />

<strong>Council</strong>s’ Group and South Eastern Metro Integrated<br />
Transport Group as part of aim to enhance the<br />
frequency and coverage of public transport within<br />
<strong>Cardinia</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> and the south-east region.<br />
Enhanced natural environment<br />

Adapt to the impacts of climate change by working in partnership with the South East <strong>Council</strong>s Climate Change<br />
Alliance and both Australian and Victorian governments.<br />
Support South East <strong>Council</strong>s Climate Change<br />
Alliance (SECCCA) through membership and<br />
participating in relevant projects (e.g. Home Energy<br />
Advisory Service).<br />
<strong>Council</strong> has continued to support the South East<br />
<strong>Council</strong>s Climate Change Alliance via membership<br />
and participation in projects. This year the alliance<br />
developed and submitted a grant application to the<br />
Climate Innovations Grants program for a regional<br />
Zero Emissions Strategy. While this application<br />
was unsuccessful, the alliance has made initial<br />
steps to ensure momentum of this project<br />
continues. <strong>Council</strong> has actively participated in a<br />
number of alliance initiatives throughout the year.<br />
This includes: 30 <strong>Cardinia</strong> <strong>Shire</strong> staff members<br />
participating in EcoDriver efficiency training,<br />
resulting in increased safety and fuel savings;<br />
Residential Energy Assessments were completed<br />
for 22 homes in the shire; and ten pensioner homes<br />
were retrofitted with solar energy systems through<br />
the Solar Savers project, improving the thermal<br />
comfort and financial security of the pensioner<br />
home owners. The cost of these systems will be<br />
recovered over a 10-year period.<br />
