THE D AJJAL AND THE RETURN OF JESUS<br />
"I am concealing something from you. ' Which was,<br />
'<strong>The</strong>n wait you for the Day when the sky will<br />
bring forth a visible smoke."'<br />
[Surah al-Dukhdn : 10]1 8<br />
<strong>Ibn</strong> Kathir has said: 'Indeed <strong>Ibn</strong> Sayyad use to divulge (in the<br />
matters <strong>of</strong> the unseen) as the fortunetellers used to - that is - on<br />
the tongues <strong>of</strong> the Jinn; who abbreviate speech. For this reason<br />
he said: 'al-Dukh, al-Dukh' implying al-Dukhdn. It was then that<br />
<strong>Al</strong>lah's Messenger (~) recognized (the basis <strong>of</strong>) hi s matter<br />
(mddda), and that it is devilish, and there upon replied: "Be <strong>of</strong>f<br />
with you! You will never exceed your rank." 19<br />
His Death<br />
Jabir (may <strong>Al</strong>lah be pleased with him) reported:<br />
We lost <strong>Ibn</strong> Sayyad on the day (battle) <strong>of</strong> al-Harrah.' 20<br />
<strong>Ibn</strong> Hajr has authenticated this report, while he declared weak<br />
the opinion <strong>of</strong> those who say, <strong>Ibn</strong> Sayyad died in Madinah, and<br />
that they uncovered his face and prayed on him. 21<br />
