Abu 'Abiyah says about the narrations <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ibn</strong> Sayyad: 'Is a child<br />
responsible (for his actions)? <strong>And</strong> has the Messenger's attention<br />
reached such a level regarding this pretender that he stands to<br />
him and asks him this question? Is it from (sound) reason that he<br />
waits until he obtains his - that is <strong>Ibn</strong> Sayyad - reply? <strong>And</strong> is it<br />
acceptable that he pardons him for his kdftr response, claiming<br />
Prophet-hood and Messengership? <strong>And</strong> does <strong>Al</strong>lah dispatch children?<br />
<strong>The</strong>se are questions we pose to those who paralyze their<br />
minds from thinking correctly and rightly.' 4<br />
<strong>The</strong> response to Abu 'Abiyah's remarks is that (firstly) no one<br />
has ever said a child is responsible (for his actions), and neither<br />
that <strong>Al</strong>lah dispatches children. On the contrary, the Prophet (:i)<br />
only intended to be thoroughly acquainted regarding <strong>Ibn</strong> Sayyad<br />
- is he the <strong>Dajjal</strong> or not? For it had become widespread in Madinah<br />
that he is the <strong>Dajjal</strong> whom the Prophet (:i) warned about. <strong>And</strong><br />
moreover, nothing so far had been revealed to the Prophet (:i)<br />
about <strong>Ibn</strong> Sayyad. Hence, the Messenger <strong>of</strong> <strong>Al</strong>lah (:i) considered<br />
that the thing which will expose his deceit - (knowing that)<br />
he was a discerning child, who understood discourse - was to<br />
ask him, 'Do you bear witness that I am <strong>Al</strong>lah's Messenger?' Till<br />
he said, 'Indeed I have concealed something from you (so what<br />
is it?)' <strong>And</strong> other questions which the Messenger <strong>of</strong> <strong>Al</strong>lah (:i)<br />
directed to him.<br />
It was not intended by these questions that <strong>Ibn</strong> Sayyad be under<br />
the obligation to accept Islam. But rather, the intention was<br />
to make evident the reality <strong>of</strong> his true condition. So if the in-<br />
