<strong>The</strong> Statements <strong>of</strong> the Scholars regarding <strong>Ibn</strong> Sqyyad<br />

So Jabir (may <strong>Al</strong>lah be pleased with him) was adamant that <strong>Ibn</strong><br />

Sayyad is the Great <strong>Dajjal</strong>. Even if it is said, (that) he embraced<br />

Islam entered Macilnah and died (in it).<br />

It has preceeded, what has been authentically reported by Jabir<br />

(may <strong>Al</strong>lah be pleased with him) who said, 'We lost <strong>Ibn</strong> Sayyad<br />

on the day (battle) <strong>of</strong> al-J:Iarrah.' 13<br />

<strong>Ibn</strong> J:Iajr says: 'Abu Nu'aym al-Asba}:i.anI 14 has collected in the<br />

history <strong>of</strong> al-Asba}:i.an 15 that which corroborates that <strong>Ibn</strong> Sayyad<br />

is the Great <strong>Dajjal</strong>. He cites (a report) by way <strong>of</strong> Shabil ibn<br />

'Arazah who reports from J:Ia~an ibn 'Abdur-Ra}:i.man, who reports<br />

from his father, who said: 'When we conquered Asbahan<br />

there was a distance <strong>of</strong> a jarsaq 16 between our forces and al­<br />

Yahiid!Jah17. We used to enter it and select from it. <strong>The</strong>n one day<br />

I entered it and there (I saw) the Jews dancing and playing (their<br />

musical instruments). <strong>The</strong>reupon I asked one <strong>of</strong> them who was<br />

my (close) friend (what are you doing)? He replied, 'Our king<br />

whose aid we have been asking for (from <strong>Al</strong>lah), by whom we<br />

shall victorious on the Arabs, shall (soon) enter.'<br />

was from the trustworthy and reliable ones, he was born and ( eventually) died in<br />
