GENERAL INFORMATION<br />
States government documents. Special collections house the College archives, the<br />
archives of the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church, and rare<br />
books. Digitized collections include Birmingham-Southern College yearbooks dating<br />
back to 1907, as well as a number of student publications. Many of the Library’s<br />
resources may be accessed online.<br />
The Library offers a range of teaching and learning environments. Conference rooms,<br />
seminar rooms, research carrels, an auditorium with video and computer projection<br />
facilities, an electronic classroom, a learning technology center, and a blended learning<br />
classroom are among the facilities for individual and group study, research, and<br />
instruction. Copying, scanning, and printing services are also available. Computer<br />
workstations and wireless access are available.<br />
The Library is a member of several state, regional, and national library cooperatives and<br />
networks, including the Network of Alabama Academic Libraries (NAAL), the<br />
Associated Colleges of the South (ACS), and the regional library network LYRASIS.<br />
Excellent interlibrary loan service is available to students and faculty. Through an interinstitutional<br />
borrowing agreement, students and faculty of the College may use the<br />
libraries at other academic institutions in the Birmingham area.<br />
Counseling and Health Services<br />
The staff in Counseling and Health Services is equipped to provide assistance in a variety<br />
of areas. Any currently enrolled student may utilize services, which are offered in a<br />
confidential and nonjudgmental environment.<br />
The counseling staff typically works with short-term counseling needs ranging from<br />
adjustment to college, time and stress management, anxiety and depression, relationship<br />
concerns, and loss and grief. More involved concerns requiring a specific expertise may<br />
be referred to a mental health professional off campus as needed or requested. The staff is<br />
available for consultations and referrals for all members of the campus community,<br />
including faculty and staff.<br />
The Office of Health Services provides personal care and assists individuals in<br />
maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Health Services provides on-campus healthcare by a<br />
full-time registered nurse. Common health concerns include allergy injections,<br />
immunizations, and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries. Referrals to off-campus<br />
specialists are available as needed. Services are available for all members of the campus<br />
community.<br />
Career Services<br />
The Birmingham-Southern College Career Services Office provides individualized career<br />
counseling, testing, and the tools and resources necessary for career exploration, career<br />
planning, and professional development. Assistance is provided with job market<br />
strategies, networking techniques, professional etiquette, workplace issues, interview<br />
