EH 240 CI Technology, Literature, and New Media (1)<br />

An introductory course in literature and media, with emphasis on the history, social<br />

meaning, and political implications of changing media technologies. Foundational<br />

theoretical texts will be paired with international case studies and/or literary works in<br />

order to consider themes raise by the texts within their social context. A Community<br />

Interests designated course. Prerequisite: EH 102 or EH 208, or instructor consent.<br />

EH 248 Monsters, Monarchs, and Monastics: Legacies of Medieval Literature in<br />

Popular Culture (1)<br />

An introductory course focusing on critical approaches to literature. Using medieval<br />

literature in translation and texts from popular culture the course introduces students to<br />

the fundamentals of literary interpretation. Texts range from Arthurian romances to<br />

contemporary trade market mysteries. Considerable attention is also given to technology<br />

in teaching and learning. (Also listed as HON 248.) Prerequisite: EH 102 or EH 208.<br />

EH 250 IA Survey of British Literature (1)<br />

An introduction to major British prose and verse written from the Anglo-Saxon period to<br />

the present. An Interpretation or Analysis designated course.<br />

EH 260 IA Survey of American Literature (1)<br />

An introduction to major American prose and verse written from the Colonial period to<br />

the present. An Interpretation or Analysis designated course.<br />

EH 265 Survey of Southern Authors (1)<br />

Studies of important long works by major Southern writers from antebellum to present<br />

times. Prerequisite: EH 102 or EH 208.<br />

EH 280 ES Greco-Roman Literature in Translation (1)<br />

A selection of major Greek and Latin works read in English translation. An Explorations<br />

in Scholarship designated course. Prerequisite: EH 102 or EH 208.<br />

EH 293, 393, 493 Independent Study in English (½ or 1)<br />

Directed study for advanced students in the major. Specific guidelines concerning<br />

independent study projects appear in the “Exploration Term and Contract Learning”<br />

section of this catalog.<br />

EH 297, 397, 497 Internship in English (½ or 1)<br />

An internship opportunity allowing students to practice career skills and/or further<br />

develop abilities beneficial for graduate study. Specific guidelines concerning internships<br />

EH 298, 398, 498 Teaching Experience in English (½ or 1)<br />
