ED 319 Teaching Secondary Reading (1)<br />
Provides theories, methods, and materials necessary to teach reading in the content areas<br />
to students ages 9 through 16. Improvement and remediation of reading are emphasized<br />
in relation to middle and secondary school students. Laboratory required. A servicelearning<br />
integrated course. Prerequisite: admission to Teacher Education Program.<br />

ED 320 Teaching Mathematics (1)<br />
Develops techniques, materials, and methods for teaching mathematics to children ages 5<br />
through 12. Attention will be given to teaching children with special needs. Laboratory<br />
required. A service-learning integrated course. Prerequisite: admission to Teacher<br />
Education Program. Spring.<br />
ED 323 Teaching Secondary Subjects (¾)<br />
Designed for teacher candidates who seek certification at the secondary level, grades 6-<br />
12. Students develop strategies, techniques, methods, and materials necessary to direct<br />
learning within respective content areas. Teacher candidates are required to make<br />
decisions about their teaching fields in relation to planning, presenting, and assessing<br />
subject matter. Laboratory required. Prerequisites: enrollment in an appropriate subject<br />
field methods course and admission to Teacher Education Program. Fall.<br />
ED 324 Teaching Science and Health (1)<br />
Provides teacher candidates with philosophy, content knowledge, techniques, and<br />
materials to assist them in the teaching of science and health to grades K-6. Attention will<br />
be given to teaching children with special needs. Prerequisite: admission to Teacher<br />
Education Program. Spring.<br />
ED 340 Methods for Teaching English Language Arts in Secondary Schools (¼)<br />
Provides knowledge of current trends and issues in teaching English Language Arts in<br />
grades 6-12 classroom settings. Teacher candidates will demonstrate an ability to<br />
interrelate the teaching of listening, speaking, reading, and writing using a variety of<br />
instructional activities. Prerequisites: enrollment in ED 323 and admission to Teacher<br />
Education Program. Fall.<br />
ED 341 Methods for Teaching Modern Foreign Languages in Secondary Schools (¼)<br />
Provides knowledge of current trends and issues in teaching Spanish in grades 6-12<br />
classroom settings. Teacher candidates will demonstrate knowledge of strategies for<br />
teaching and evaluating language skills with appropriate attention to the integration of the<br />
foreign language skills. Prerequisites: enrollment in ED 323 and admission to Teacher<br />
Education Program. Fall.<br />
ED 342 Methods for Teaching Mathematics in Secondary Schools (¼)<br />
Provides knowledge of current trends and issues in teaching mathematics in grades 6-12<br />
classroom settings. Teacher candidates will demonstrate knowledge of effective use of<br />
