GRADING SYSTEM<br />

Definition of Grades<br />

The system of grading, indicating the relative proficiency a student attains in various<br />

courses, is as follows:<br />

A — distinctive<br />

A- — superior<br />

B+ — outstanding<br />

B — very good<br />

B- — good<br />

C+ — above average<br />

C — average<br />

C- — below average<br />

D+ — poor<br />

D — lowest passing grade<br />

F — failure<br />

S — satisfactory (“C” or above)<br />

U — unsatisfactory (“C-” or below)<br />

A student who receives a grade of “F” or a “U” in any course will receive no credit for<br />

that course and is not eligible for reexamination in it.<br />

The following additional notations may be made on a student’s grade report or transcript:<br />

I — credit postponed until completion of assignments by end of next regular<br />

term<br />

O — credit omitted until completion of a course designed to extend beyond<br />

one term<br />

W — withdrawal without grade<br />

WF — withdrawal with a grade of “F” (assigned for a medical withdrawal<br />

when a student withdraws from all courses after the seventh week of<br />

classes)<br />

WP — withdrawal with a grade of “D” or above (assigned for a medical<br />

withdrawal when a student withdraws from all courses after the end of<br />

the seventh week of classes)<br />

Z — audit<br />

Other notations:<br />

AP — advanced placement<br />

IB — international baccalaureate<br />

R3 INT — non-credit-bearing rise 3 internship<br />

R3 RES — non-credit-bearing rise 3 research project<br />

TR — transfer, transient, study abroad<br />
