AN 330 GP Asian Perspectives on Environmental Science (1)<br />
An interdisciplinary examination of environmental science from perspectives of Asian<br />
thought. The course supplements Anglo-European perspectives on the environment to<br />
achieve a more global understanding of environmental science. Topics include the<br />
problem of change, presuppositions of science, silent transformations, reversal and<br />
propensity, ecology and ecofeminism, energy and natural capital, biodiversity and<br />
chemical cycling, climate and future sustainability. Since environmental science studies<br />
how humans interact with the environment, this course emphasizes the necessary<br />
integration of humanities with social and natural sciences. A Global Perspectives<br />
designated course. (Also listed as UES 330.) Prerequisite: at least sophomore standing.<br />
AN 470 Senior Project in Asian Studies (1)<br />
A research project that demonstrates a student’s ability to investigate a problem in Asian<br />
studies. The research paper required must use scholarly and, if possible, primary sources,<br />
either in translation or in the appropriate Asian language. Prerequisite: senior standing in<br />
Asian studies.<br />

A studio course dealing with the fundamental principles of oil painting, accompanied by<br />

A studio course emphasizing the formal elements that are essential to communicating a<br />
visual statement. The course utilizes both traditional materials and digital media to<br />
creatively solve problems that challenge students to explore the world and communicate<br />
their unique perspectives within two-dimensional formats. A Creative Expression<br />

A studio course emphasizing composition and construction techniques through a series of<br />
three-dimensional projects. A Creative Expression and Interpretation or Analysis<br />

AR 122 ES Photography Through the Lens of Altered Truths (1)<br />
An exploration of the interrelationship between photography and our understanding of<br />
reality and truth. Through readings, projects, and critiques, the course will explore<br />
photography’s history, its creative visual language, and its uncanny ability to challenge<br />
our sense of what is true. An Explorations in Scholarship designated course.<br />
