4.4 Objectives
The following objectives have been agreed for each thematic area:
Culture
(a) To work towards building positive relationships between the Traveller
and settled community by developing a greater appreciation of the
respective cultures and values of both communities.
Accommodation
(a) To work in partnership with relevant statutory agencies, Donegal
Travellers Project, the Local Traveller Accommodation Consultative
Committee and Traveller families to deliver suitable accommodation to
Travellers in Donegal.
Health Services
(a) To support the delivery of culturally appropriate health services to the
Traveller community so as to improve the health and wellbeing of
Travellers in Donegal.
(b) To work with others to develop and implement an agreed plan to tackle
the key social and economic determinants of health for Travellers
leading to better health outcomes for them.
(c) To implement the recommendations of the Health Impact Assessment
on the Traveller Accommodation Programme 2005 – 2008 which have
been agreed by the intersectoral steering group.
Education including Informal Education and Youth Services
(a) To raise awareness and gain a greater appreciation of interculturalism
at pre school, primary school and secondary school level.
(b) To work in partnership with relevant statutory agencies and Donegal
Travellers Project to support Traveller children and their families in
achieving a good standard of literacy and completing secondary level
education.
(c) To support young Travellers in participating in social and community
life and in particular in mainstream youth activities.
Further Education, Training and Employment
(a) To work in an interagency basis to open training and employment
opportunities for Travellers in Donegal.
