Comhairle na nÓg Dhún na nGall /Donegal Youth
Council
Project Aim
To provide a democratically elected youth council
for Donegal which represents young people in the
decision making process on issues and policies that
effect them locally, regionally and nationally.

Description of project
The Donegal Youth Council have carried out
activities & achievements to several seminars, training days and cross border
date
work under Peace 3 “Citizens Now” Project. This
seeks to include young people from different
backgrounds in the Donegal Youth Council by
bringing young people together under common
issues, with a specific emphasis on Stranorlar and
Inishowen. To date we have successfully
completed:
Social Inclusion: members of the DYC attended
training looking at how groups who can often be
discriminated again, explored own values and
looked at how we work from young people from
different religious, ethnic, geographical
backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender.
Public –speaking training: Offered to a wide
variety of youth agencies and community centres,
Attended by young people from DYC, Donegal
Youth Services and Family Resource Centre,
Raphoe
Leadership training: attended by 30 young people
from DYC, Donegal Youth Service, Pobal Le
Cheile, Falcarragh, FRC in Moville, and other
young people.
Belfast residential: Working with Belfast City
Council Youth Forum, we explored the walls on
the Falls and Shankhill, visited Stormont,
participation in our respective Councils and went
ice skating.
Networking and information:
Donegal played host to Comhairlí na nÓg from
DunLaoighre/ Rathdown and Roscommon at the
end of August. It is evidence of the high regard
shown nationally to the DYC that the Council are
continually asked to host such information events.

Adel Hickey, Donegal Area Youth Council,
continues to represent Donegal at the Council
