Comhairle na nÓg Dhún na nGall /<strong>Donegal</strong> Youth<br />

<strong>Council</strong><br />

Project Aim<br />

To provide a democratically elected youth council<br />

for <strong>Donegal</strong> which represents young people in the<br />

decision making process on issues and policies that<br />

effect them locally, regionally and nationally.<br />

<strong>Part</strong>ners HSE, Schools, Youthreach Centres<br />

Description of project<br />

The <strong>Donegal</strong> Youth <strong>Council</strong> have carried out<br />

activities & achievements to several seminars, training days and cross border<br />

date<br />

work under Peace 3 “Citizens Now” Project. This<br />

seeks to include young people from different<br />

backgrounds in the <strong>Donegal</strong> Youth <strong>Council</strong> by<br />

bringing young people together under common<br />

issues, with a specific emphasis on Stranorlar and<br />

Inishowen. To date we have successfully<br />

completed:<br />

Social Inclusion: members of the DYC attended<br />

training looking at how groups who can often be<br />

discriminated again, explored own values and<br />

looked at how we work from young people from<br />

different religious, ethnic, geographical<br />

backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender.<br />

Public –speaking training: Offered to a wide<br />

variety of youth agencies and community centres,<br />

Attended by young people from DYC, <strong>Donegal</strong><br />

Youth Services and Family Resource Centre,<br />

Raphoe<br />

Leadership training: attended by 30 young people<br />

from DYC, <strong>Donegal</strong> Youth Service, Pobal Le<br />

Cheile, Falcarragh, FRC in Moville, and other<br />

young people.<br />

Belfast residential: Working with Belfast City<br />

<strong>Council</strong> Youth Forum, we explored the walls on<br />

the Falls and Shankhill, visited Stormont,<br />

participation in our respective <strong>Council</strong>s and went<br />

ice skating.<br />

Networking and information:<br />

<strong>Donegal</strong> played host to Comhairlí na nÓg from<br />

DunLaoighre/ Rathdown and Roscommon at the<br />

end of August. It is evidence of the high regard<br />

shown nationally to the DYC that the <strong>Council</strong> are<br />

continually asked to host such information events.<br />

Daíl na nÓg <strong>Council</strong>:<br />

Adel Hickey, <strong>Donegal</strong> Area Youth <strong>Council</strong>,<br />

continues to represent <strong>Donegal</strong> at the <strong>Council</strong><br />
