to Learn.” We also can <strong>in</strong>fluence <strong>the</strong> district<br />
office if <strong>the</strong> school’s start time needs to be changed.<br />

successfully done this.<br />
F<strong>in</strong>ally, we ought to engage both school and<br />
community resources to educate parents on how to<br />
get <strong>the</strong>ir children ready for school. Many parents<br />
simply don’t have access to <strong>in</strong>formation, or <strong>the</strong>y<br />

th<strong>in</strong>k <strong>the</strong>y already know it. Create alliances with<br />
local hospitals, <strong>the</strong> chamber of commerce, or local<br />
bus<strong>in</strong>esses to get <strong>the</strong> word out. Prepare flyers and<br />
provide free sessions for parents on <strong>the</strong> benefits of<br />
gett<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir children ready to learn. Talk to <strong>the</strong>m<br />
about motor development, crawl<strong>in</strong>g, and how it<br />
affects read<strong>in</strong>g and writ<strong>in</strong>g skills. Encourage <strong>the</strong>m<br />
to talk more, play music, and solve more problems.<br />
Share with <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong> impact of television and<br />
some easy-to-use alternatives.
