approach was too high, green if it was on the correct glide slope, and red<br />

if it was too low.<br />

5. Two Stage Amber. The special goggles only admitted amber light. The<br />

flares and cockpit lights were both sodium yellow. Nothing was visible<br />

to the pilot except the flare path and his instruments. Circuit planning<br />

was difficult due to the limited angle of view.<br />

6. P38. Lockheed Lightning. Long range twin engined fighter.<br />

7. Drem Lighting System. Originating at Drem near Edinburgh in 1940. A<br />

large circle of lights centred on the airfield - with a 'lead in' funnel -<br />

lighting along both sides of the runway and twin glide path indicators.<br />
