FAUCETS FROM THE
3D METAL PRINTER
Der ultradünne Auslauf von
GROHE Atrio Icon 3D lässt
den Wasserfluss wie eine
magische, optische Illusion
erscheinen.
The ultra-thin spout of the
GROHE Atrio Icon 3D
makes the water flow look
like a magic optical illusion.
3D-Druck gilt längst als
Fertigungstechnologie der
Zukunft. Was bisher von
Premiumherstellern aus der
Automobil- und Flugzeugbaubranche
verwendet
wurde, hält dank GROHE
nun auch im Sanitärbereich
Einzug.
3D printing has long been
heralded as the production
technology of the future.
Already in use by luxury car
makers and the aerospace
industry, thanks to GROHE
it is now being introduced in
the sanitary sector as well.
erhältlich in gebürsteter Rohstahloptik.
mechanisch bearbeitet. Anschließend folgen in Handarbeit

WHEN DEVELOPING STATE-OF-THE-ART PRODUCTS
GROHE uses cutting-edge technologies and presents them in an iconic
silhouette. With the GROHE Atrio Icon 3D and GROHE Allure
Brilliant Icon 3D collections, the global manufacturer of holistic bathroom
solutions and kitchen fittings offers two astonishing faucets that
are produced on a 3D metal printer – an emerging production technology
that is being embraced as a method of the future by both luxury
car makers and the aerospace industry. With the reinterpretation of
the Atrio and Allure Brilliant lines incorporating the Icon 3D design,
GROHE takes product design to a whole new level.
Symbiosis of design and technology
The 3D metal printing used by GROHE makes even unusual geometries
possible for a new experience of materiality: Radical reduction
of the design to the essential puts the focus on the corrosion-resistant
steel as a raw material that is used to make the final product. Emphasis
on the pure essence of form not only saves valuable resources, but also
offers a new interactive experience of water. The ultra-thin walls of
the GROHE Atrio Icon 3D coupled with the hollow interior in the
familiar GROHE Allure Brilliant Icon 3D silhouette gives the water
flow the appearance of a magic optical illusion. This makes the taps
of both lines an aesthetic highlight, available in a brushed steel finish.
Digital cutting-edge technology meets handcrafting
By uniting traditional handcrafting in time-proven GROHE quality
with innovative cutting-edge technology, GROHE crafts exclusive
unique pieces on demand. The components are all produced using
a powder bed laser melting process. Each part is made up of around
4,700 layers of steel that are each 0.06 millimeters thick and has the
strength comparable to forged steel. After printing, the parts are CNC
machined, followed by a manual grinding and fine brushing procedure
as the last step of the finish. This elaborate process is what makes the
Icon 3D series so exclusive: Each product is a one-of-a-kind piece and
the collection is limited to a few pieces per year.
