Great for learning alongside masters in the field: Middlebury <strong>Language</strong> Schools MA in<br />
<strong>Chinese</strong><br />
The Middlebury <strong>Language</strong> Schools are renowned domestic immersion programs that<br />
offer immersion language experiences for adults, as well as graduate-level coursework for<br />
language teachers. This MA program is focused on a mix of <strong>Chinese</strong> linguistics, language<br />
pedagogy, and culture, with the goal of preparing its graduates to be effective teachers at any age<br />
level. MA students mix and mingle with faculty and from the immersion program, benefitting<br />
from the laboratory-like environment that allows for daily interaction with real <strong>Chinese</strong> language<br />
learners. Two tracks available: four summers on campus in Middlebury, Vermont, or two<br />
summers in Vermont with an academic year of study at Middlebury’s graduate campus in<br />
Monterey, California. All <strong>Chinese</strong> School coursework at Middlebury’s Vermont campus is<br />
taught in <strong>Chinese</strong>, as are some of the courses on the Monterey campus.<br />

licensure for public schools: University of Pittsburgh MAT in World and Heritage<br />
<strong>Language</strong> Education<br />
The MAT in World and Heritage <strong>Language</strong> Education is a licensure preparation program,<br />
so graduates of this 10-month course of instruction come away with a degree and a Pennsylvania<br />
teaching certificate. Combining rigorous coursework specific to the teaching of second languages<br />
in public K-<strong>12</strong> schools with internship and teaching practicum opportunities, this program<br />
prepares candidates who already have experience and background in <strong>Chinese</strong> language, culture,<br />
and linguistics for the specific challenges of teaching the language in public K-<strong>12</strong> schools in the<br />
United States.<br />

Ohio State University M.A. in <strong>Chinese</strong> <strong>Language</strong> Pedagogy<br />
As a program from the Department of East Asian <strong>Language</strong>s and Literatures, this MA<br />
degree offers candidates the flexibility of keeping career options open. Coursework focuses on<br />
pedagogy, curriculum design and development, all with an embedded and intertwined focus on<br />
East Asian, and specifically <strong>Chinese</strong>, culture. OSU offers the option for qualified candidates to<br />
pursue both the MA and PhD program in <strong>Chinese</strong>, where they can choose a focus in literature,<br />
