Current Research<br />

One of the most notable challenges facing cosmology today is the nature of the mysterious dark energy<br />

introduced in the standard model of cosmology to account for the current accelerating expansion of the<br />

universe. Many non-standard cosmologies have been proposed to eliminate the need for any form of<br />

dark energy – one such model is the Sudden Future Singularity model; this model can display a nearfuture<br />

sudden rise in the pressure while the energy density remains unaffected. The evolution of the<br />

scale factor in this model shows that a current acceleration is indeed obtained without the inclusion of<br />

any form of dark energy. We confront this model with current cosmological data to find out whether it<br />

is physically viable.<br />
