Current Research
My research interest covers various hardware aspects of hyperspectral imaging (HSI), specifically with
respect to the development of the IRIS sensor. HSI offers the advantage of increased discrimination
through additional spectral information with respect to normal broadband sensors. This novel patented
invention is a snapshot device, which concurrently measures both spatial and spectral information
within a remote scene. This is achieved through fixed optical elements with no mechanical or temporal
scanning, enabling a relatively compact and robust passive sensor. With recent progress in advancing
IRIS from the visible into the infrared region, it provides numerous opportunities for remote sensing
applications. Fellow peers are exploiting IRIS for ophthalmic diagnosis of the human retina, while my
focus is on airborne HSI and the various opportunities therein.
