Current Research
John Peacock's research concentrates on cosmology with large imaging and spectroscopic surveys. The
GAMA redshift survey will find groups of galaxies with improved fidelity to lower masses than
previously possible, allowing dark-matter haloes to be located, and efficiency variations of galaxy
formation within these haloes to be studied. Imaging data from the Pan-STARRS survey will provide
photometric redshifts and allow the large-scale matter distribution to be mapped. Much effort is
currently invested in planning the next generation of observational facilities: the WFMOS multi-fibre
spectrograph and the EUCLID satellite, which will extend ground based studies and permit greatly
improved measurements of the properties of dark energy.
