Current Research<br />

Research interests are in the fundamental particles of nature and their interactions. In particular,<br />

measurements of CP violation (matter-antimatter asymmetry) in B physics and the discovery of new<br />

particle decays. Member of the BaBar and LHCb collaborations. Leading an area of expertise in<br />

distributed storage management for the GridPP collaboration.<br />

Current Research<br />

Peter Clarke is Professor of e-Science at the University of Edinburgh and Director the UK National e-<br />

Science Centre. He was formerly head of Particle <strong>Physics</strong> at University College London. In the area of<br />

Grid computing he has been involved in UK eScience since its inception. He directs the Institute for<br />

eScience at Edinburgh which comprises the NeSC (national centre), the eScience training and<br />

education team, the eScience Institute, and the NeSC research division. He was a founder of the e-<br />

Science Centre of Excellence in Networked Systems at UCL. He is a member of the management board<br />

of the UK grid for particle physics (GridPP), and formerly the European Data Grid and the EGEE<br />

projects. He was a member of the Global Grid Forum Steering Committee and co-Director of the Data<br />

Area until 2005. He has worked with the JISC for several years through its Committee for Networking<br />

(JCN) and the Committee for the Support of Research (JCSR). He has also been very active in the<br />

promotion of national and international networking to enable research. He has led several application<br />

projects which address issues on the boundary between Grids and the Network and was a principal<br />

proponent of UKLight. He is a member of the Particle <strong>Physics</strong> experiment group at Edinburgh. His<br />

earlier work was in making precision measurements of the electro-weak interaction, the properties of<br />

the Z and W bosons and indirect searches for the Higgs boson at SLD (SLAC) and LEP (CERN). He<br />

now works on studies matter anti-matter asymmetry and CP violation at the LHC proton collider<br />

programme (CERN) as a member of the LHCb experiment. He is qualified with D.Phil in Particle<br />

<strong>Physics</strong> from Oxford University, and a B.Sc in Electronic Engineering from Southampton University.<br />
