Current Research<br />

My research is aimed at the detection of gravitational waves from astrophysical sources. In particular I<br />

am working on improving the performance of gravitational wave detectors through the reduction of<br />

thermal noise and have particular interests in the GEO 600 detector in Germany, the transfer of GEO<br />

technology to the US LIGO project, and the design of a third generation low temperature detector<br />

system.<br />

Current Research<br />

My research interests are in the fields of computational and theoretical materials science and condensed<br />

matter. I have a long standing interest in the behaviour of hydrogen impurities in semiconductors and<br />

more recently have become interested in novel magnetic and spintronics systems. I'm also member of<br />

the RAINBOW European network which aims to develop high quality indium nitride based materials<br />

for applications in high electron mobility devices and high efficiency optoelectronics. Additionally I'm<br />

a member of the European COST network "Designing Novel Materials for Nanodevices: From Theory<br />

to Practise".<br />
