It’s notthat five events would betoo much for Pat, it’s hissupport crew that getsexhausted!PAT TURNS 90, 2016On the eve of Pat’s 90th birthday, Maxine Boag saidat yet another civic presentation that Pat continues tomake a difference to many people and organisationsand his story is an important part of Napier’s history:“A pakeha of Irish ethnicity, Pat has for a long timebeen a relentless social-justice-Treaty activist. He goesto the courthouse weekly, supports many and is wellloved in the Māori community. He has spearheadedmany community events and fearlessly fought againstincarceration of Māori. He has organised dozens ofTreaty workshops and sold Robert Consedine’s book“Healing our History” wherever he goes amongst Pakeha.Pat is both a treasure and a thorn in the side, a rebuttto the Sensible Sentencers, a seasoned fund raiserfor the many causes and people he supports, a friend tothe friendless and homeless and a ‘conscience’ to us,showing us another way of looking at the world.”266Awards, travel, parties – fun, fun, fun!
