2 Setup and logon Setting up the McAfee Web Gateway appliance Setting up a virtual appliance To run McAfee Web Gateway as a virtual appliance, you need to obtain an ISO image of the appliance system and install it on a virtual machine. Requirements for setting up a virtual appliance To set up McAfee Web Gateway as a virtual appliance, you need the following: • One of the following VMware ® types: • VMware ESX ® • VMware ESXi ® • VMware workstation version 5.5 or later • Virtual machine host system with the following requirements: • CPU: 64-bit capable • Virtualization extension: VT-x/AMD-V • Virtual machine with the following requirements: • Memory: 4 GB • Hard-disk space: 200 GB • CPU cores: 2 (minimum) Set up a new virtual machine When you have obtained the ISO image of the appliance system, you can install it on a virtual machine. 1 Start VMware. 2 Set up a new virtual machine. The procedures for setting up a virtual machine differ for each VMware type. When setting up McAfee Web Gateway as a virtual appliance, make sure you configure the settings listed in the following table. Note: For parameters that are not listed, use the default values given in the procedures. Parameter names can also differ in each procedure. Installing the appliance software Setup and logon Setting up the McAfee Web Gateway appliance 2 After turning on the appliance, the installer menu appears. It includes an option for using a wizard to implement your own initial configuration settings. Before you select an installation mode, review the default settings. They are implemented on the appliance if you do not use with the wizard. The following table shows these settings: Table 2-2 Default settings for the initial configuration Parameter Value Primary network interface eth0 Autoconfiguration with DHCP yes Host name mwgappl Root password webgateway Remote root logon with SSH off Default gateway DNS server Select a mode and install the appliance software The installer menu allows you to select a mode for installing the appliance software. The following table explains the menu options: Table 2-3 Installer menu Option Definition 1 – serial console System output is displayed on a serial console. (with configuation wizard) When the appliance software is successfully installed in standard mode, the appliance restarts and displays a wizard for implementing the initial configuration settings. 2 – video console System output is displayed on a video console. (with configuration wizard) When the appliance software is successfully installed in standard mode, the appliance restarts and displays a wizard for implementing the initial configuration settings. 3 – serial console System output is displayed on a serial console. When the appliance software is successfully installed in standard mode, the appliance restarts and waits for your confirmation to complete the installation. 4 – video console System output is displayed on a video console.
