The number <strong>of</strong> applications made by different sectors varies significantly. The size <strong>of</strong> area applied for also varies<br />
significantly by sector (Figure 22). For example, applications in the utilities <strong>and</strong> pipelines sector accounted for<br />
36% <strong>of</strong> the total number <strong>of</strong> applications received, while applications for environment <strong>and</strong> public recreation<br />
accounted for only 2% <strong>of</strong> the total received. The total area <strong>of</strong> <strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong> applied for was 40,122,472 hectares.<br />
Applications in the tourism <strong>and</strong> accommodation sector accounted for 66% <strong>of</strong> the area applied for, while<br />
applications in the public services sector accounted for only 0.6% <strong>of</strong> the area applied for.<br />

Looking at averages, or totals over a period <strong>of</strong> time, can mask significant year-to-year variation in tenure dem<strong>and</strong>.<br />
