The distribution <strong>of</strong> l<strong>and</strong> uses <strong>and</strong> cover types also varies across the natural resource sector sub-regions.<br />
• The Cariboo sub-region has the highest proportion <strong>of</strong> forested l<strong>and</strong>, with forests covering almost 80% <strong>of</strong><br />
the sub-region’s total l<strong>and</strong> base;<br />
• The Thompson-Okanagan sub-region has the highest proportion <strong>of</strong> rangel<strong>and</strong>;<br />
• The highest proportion <strong>of</strong> permanent human uses are found in the West Coast sub-region (dominated by<br />
urban development) <strong>and</strong> the Thompson-Okanagan sub-region (dominated by agriculture);<br />
• The Peace sub-region has the highest proportion <strong>of</strong> wetl<strong>and</strong>s, at 12% <strong>of</strong> the sub-region’s total l<strong>and</strong> base;<br />
<strong>and</strong><br />
• The Skeena sub-region contains almost 40% <strong>of</strong> BC’s total alpine area l<strong>and</strong> base. Alpine areas make up 21%<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Skeena sub-region’s l<strong>and</strong> base.<br />
