The sub-region with the greatest number <strong>of</strong> aboriginal people is the heavily populated South Coast; however,<br />
aboriginal people account for a greater proportion <strong>of</strong> the populations in less populated sub-regions, such as<br />
the Cariboo <strong>and</strong> Skeena. While some First Nation groups experience higher levels <strong>of</strong> socio-economic wellbeing<br />
than other First Nation groups, when taken as a whole, census data indicates that the aboriginal<br />
population has poorer average socio-economic outcomes than non-aboriginal populations. The proximity <strong>of</strong><br />
many First Nation communities to <strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers potential opportunities that can positively contribute to<br />
socio-economic opportunities for aboriginal people.<br />
