While there have been a large number <strong>of</strong> grants<br />

issued in the residential sector, the actual area <strong>of</strong><br />

l<strong>and</strong> granted is relatively small. Between 2000/2001<br />

<strong>and</strong> 2008/2009, the average area <strong>of</strong> grants for the<br />

residential sector was 2.7 hectares.<br />

In the agriculture <strong>and</strong> related activities sector, a large<br />

number <strong>of</strong> grants are also issued, but in this sector the<br />

area granted is also large, <strong>and</strong> accounts for 85.5% <strong>of</strong><br />

the total area granted in the province. The average<br />

area <strong>of</strong> grants for agriculture <strong>and</strong> related activities is<br />

81 hectares.<br />

Most residential grants are competitive sales (through<br />

Multiple Listings Service), while agriculture grants<br />

are <strong>of</strong>ten through a lease to purchase agreement.<br />

The sectors that require <strong>Crown</strong> grants vary by subregion.<br />

Table 16 shows the sector with the largest<br />

proportion <strong>of</strong> <strong>Crown</strong> grants issued between 2000<br />

<strong>and</strong> 2009 for each sub-region, <strong>and</strong> the sector with<br />

the largest percentage <strong>of</strong> <strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong> area granted<br />

between 2000 <strong>and</strong> 2009 for reach sub-region.<br />
