3.1 Overview<br />

The continued well-being <strong>of</strong> BC’s citizens <strong>and</strong> economy<br />

is supported by the availability <strong>and</strong> productivity <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong>. Effective stewardship <strong>and</strong> allocation <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong> resources will ensure<br />

sustainable benefits for future generations.<br />

The vast majority <strong>of</strong> l<strong>and</strong> in BC is <strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong><br />

managed by the provincial government. The<br />

government is responsible for efficiently allocating<br />

<strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> resources in a manner that balances<br />

social, environmental <strong>and</strong> economic objectives, <strong>and</strong><br />

maximizes the welfare <strong>of</strong> British Columbians. Effective<br />

Part 3 presents an overview <strong>of</strong> the socio-economic<br />

activity taking place on BC’s <strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong>. The<br />

indicators measured include: regional populations;<br />

regional economic diversity <strong>and</strong> income; regional<br />

unemployment; sectors using <strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong>; GDP<br />

produced on <strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong>; <strong>and</strong> the contribution <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Crown</strong> l<strong>and</strong> to government revenues.<br />
