1. Study the different approaches to collaboration research in order to<br />

develop a valid and well-grounded research strategy for analyzing<br />

collaborative building design processes.<br />

2. Analyze the existing process modeling methods in the AEC industry<br />

and identify advantages and disadvantages of each model.<br />

3. Propose a new process modeling method to alleviate the<br />

shortcomings of the existing methods.<br />

4. Develop a framework for the application of the proposed method in<br />

building design and provide means for dealing with the specific<br />

needs of the application field.<br />

5. Demonstrate the application of the proposed method via case<br />

studies.<br />

6. Provide guidance for further studies on the topic.<br />

1.3 Structure of the Thesis<br />

Further chapters of the thesis are organized as follows:<br />

Chapter 2 discusses the recently increased interest in collaborative design<br />

research in the AEC industry and its major drivers. Three different<br />

approaches to collaborative design research are identified; namely,<br />
