possible, minimizing the scope of iteration. In Figure 4.1, it is shown that<br />

once we “get shoes,” we go ahead and “put on socks” and “put on<br />

shoes” before we “inspect shoes.” If we move the inspection step<br />

upstream, as in Figure 4.2, we minimize the impact of a need to “get<br />

(new) shoes.”<br />

The banded DSM indicates which activities can be accomplished in<br />

parallel without causing additional iteration. For example, Figure 4.3<br />

shows that “get socks” and “get shoes” can be done simultaneously, as<br />

can “inspect shoes” and “put on socks.”<br />
