B.2 Elevator <strong>Design</strong> Parameter Definitions<br />

Average Highest Call Reversal Floor: The highest floor the lift visits<br />

during before returning to the main floor.<br />

Average Interfloor Distance: Total travel distance of the elevator divided<br />

by the number of possible stopping floors above the main terminal level.<br />

Average Number of Passengers per Trip: The average number of<br />

passengers carried by the elevator for a single trip.<br />

Average Number of Stops: The average number of stops of the elevator<br />

during the Round Trip Time.<br />

Average Passenger Transfer Time: The average time taken to transfer<br />

a passenger from one place to another.<br />

Buffer Load: The load that may be transmitted through the buffer to the<br />

foundation in which the elevator pit is formed.<br />

Buffer Position: The position of the buffer or bumper in the elevator pit.<br />

Building Population: The anticipated maximum number of people within<br />

the facility that the elevator(s) will serve.<br />

Building Structure Layout: The layout of the structural members (i.e.<br />

beams and columns) of the building.<br />

Building Style: The style of building e.g. standard or prestige.<br />

Building Type: The type of building in terms of its use e.g. office,<br />

housing, education, etc.<br />

Car <strong>Ceiling</strong> Finish: The finish applied to the ceiling of the elevator.<br />

Car Depth: The horizontal dimensions between the inner surfaces of the<br />

car walls measured at right angles to the car width and at 1m above the<br />

car floor.<br />

Car Door Finish: The finish applied to the elevator car door(s).<br />

Car Door Opening Configuration: The configuration employed for<br />

opening the doors.<br />

Car Door Width: The width of an opening in a hoistway at a landing that<br />

enables access into the car.<br />

Car Floor Finish: The finish applied to the floor of the elevator.<br />

Car Grouping: Grouping arrangement of two or more elevators.<br />
