The easiest way to straighten or align long sections of tubing is to insert a piece of 1" thick-wall tube or solid bar as an<br />

extension handle deep inside the rail and apply a little manual pressure in short 'bursts' using the leverage of the 'extension'<br />

handle. Hopefully you won't have to do this but if you do be very careful as it's easy to over bend tubing using this rather<br />

primitive technique.<br />

Once you're satisfied that everything lines up install the cross member and I suggest that you complete any welds that remain<br />

to be fully finished at every point on the frame except for the axle plates and steering neck. Do a final check for alignment<br />

afterwards and then we're ready to install the plates.<br />

The back half of the frame should now resemble what is shown in figure 3 below.<br />

We're now ready to trim the rear tube ends to their final length so that the axle plates will mate up properly. If I'm using a jig,<br />

the plates are just slid onto the dummy axle and a mark is made on the tube ends that will give us about 2" of the axle plate<br />

'leg' embedded into the tubing.
