When the archive is complete, you can add notes to the archive by selecting File > Properties, entering text in the Notes field for the package, and then clicking OK. This note is any text you want to add such as who created the archive and what the archive contains. For example: You might also outline additional tasks required to adapt the archive into a new domain, or provide links to requirements and test documents for the verification of the elements in the new domain. The notes are retained in the ExportProperties.xml file that is created in the archive when you save the results. 6. Choose Save As and name the archive. In this example, RIA.xar. Using the Deployment Export Tool In addition, you might want to output the files to the local file system. You can output directly to the file system by choosing Save to File System As. That creates a file structure identical to unpacking the XAR file. The only exception is that the export properties file is not created. As such, you cannot use files saved this way as the source for a command line rebuilding of the export files. To help you use this feature, you can set the select Options > Clean File System Before Write to clean out any files in that location in prior export actions. Chapter 4, “Analyzing ESB Artifacts in Archives, Stores, and File Systems,” shows how you can do analysis on either type of packaging. Viewing Messages You can choose View > Messages to review the sequence of steps taken by the export tool. The entries are date stamped and have colored alert flags for significant events worthy of special note or attention, as shown: Indicator flags call out the alert levels of each line item, as follows: ● Red flags indicate errors, and when appropriate, provide a trace tab in the Message Details dialog box that opens when you double click on a message line. ● Yellow flags indicate warnings. ● Green markers set off the start and end points of actions.
